The city of Rovinj, Croatia

 .At the head of the Adriatic between the Gulf of Trieste and the Kvarner Gulf, Istria is the largest peninsula within the Adriatic Sea.

===================

(in Croatia) The city of Rovinj is found on the north Adriatic Sea, on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula. A popular tourist resort, it has long been an active fishing port. Rovinj (Rovigno in Italian) is officially bilingual, Italian and Croatian (both town names are officially accepted). Istria’s main attraction, Rovinj is an intensely charming place to visit. The Old Town occupies an egg-shaped peninsula, with steep cobbled streets and small squares, and a church tower rising from the highest point. Originally an island, it was connected to the mainland in 1763 when the narrow channel separating it was filled. The main residential part of Rovinj spreads back from the Old Town and up the low hills that surround it, while resort hotels hug the coast to the north and south. (The 14 islands of the Rovinj archipelago also make for a pleasant visit.) St Euphemia's Church was built in the early 18th century. The largest Baroque church in Istria, Its bell tower is modeled on the campanile of St Mark’s in Venice, and is topped by a copper statue of St Euphemia, which shows the direction of the wind by turning on a spindle.
