"Vienna wasn't just a city, it was a tone that either one carries forever in one's soul or one does not." -- Sándor Márai
==============================(in central Europe) The city-state of Vienna is the capital of Austria. The country's largest city, it lies on the Danube River. It is also the country’s center of industry, trade, and culture. For centuries Vienna has been one of the world capitals of music. Operas and classical music concerts have played a major part in city life. Many great composers (including Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Johannes Brahms) have lived here. The city is home to a world-famous orchestra, opera house, and boys’ choir. Vienna is also famous for its many grand palaces and other buildings. The city was once the capital of the powerful Holy Roman Empire. The modern city has maintained a style that reflects its elegant past. Vienna is a fun city to visit in Winter. The Viennese love ice skating in wintertime. There are ice rinks set up across the city during the winter months including the one in the gardens of the Wilhelminenberg Palace, in front of the Rathaus (City Hall). The Cathedral is centrally located at Stephansplatz. The Museum Quarter, one of the great marvels of Vienna, is packed with leading art galleries and museums.
