In the city of Trenčín, in western Slovakia, near the Czech border.

 "As material fortune is associated with the properties of the body, so honor belongs to those of the soul." -- Ptolemy

==================================

(in western Slovakia, near the Czech border) One of this country's eight regional seats, Trenčín is one of Slovakia’s most attractive towns, with its castle dominating the historical center from high above. The town is much older than its most famous fortification: Roman legionnaires stationed in Trenčín (then Laugaricio) in the 2nd century even left a cliffside inscription as a memento. Yet, it was the ancient Greek Ptolemy that first mapped a settlement at the location that is now Trenčín, at a strategic juncture of a bluff outcropping of rock and the Vah River, western Slovakia’s main artery. A series of medieval castles occupied the cliff, the earliest-recorded being from the 11th century; and by the 15th century Trenčín castle was recognized as the region’s most powerful. The town's other claim to fame is Slovakia's largest music festival, a genre-straddling epic hosted in Trenčín each (normal) summer. After hiking up to the castle and drinking in the views from its ramparts, stroll among the 18th- and 19th-century buildings of Trenčín's town center. (Two interlocking pedestrian squares are lined with pubs and restaurants.)
